Embracing Authentic Film Colors, Powered by Science

PBS Documentary Features Color in Motion and Scan2Screen

We are thrilled to share that Scan2Screen’s work is featured in a new episode of PST Art: Fusing Art & Science, a digital series from PBS SoCal. The short documentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at our contributions to Color in Motion: Chromatic Explorations of Cinema, the exhibition currently on view at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.

The episode highlights the powerful role color plays in shaping the cinematic experience – and the vital role that cutting-edge digitization techniques play in keeping that experience alive. Academy Museum Senior Exhibitions Curator Jessica Niebel and Scan2Screen Founder and CEO, Dr. Barbara Flueckiger, are featured in the short to present historical film colors and Scan2Screen’s multispectral scanning technology that powers our work. This cutting-edge process captures authentic detail and restores the full visual richness of historical color film.

We digitized over 70 rare film fragments for this groundbreaking exhibition, many drawn from international archives and rarely seen in public. The result is a vivid, immersive experience that reconnects audiences with the lush color palettes of early cinema.

We invite you to watch the short documentary to gain deeper insights into our work and the technology that makes it possible.

If you’re interested in partnering with us on a preservation or digitization project, we’d love to hear from you.
